Health Insurance Program

What do you receive?
A Blue Cross/ Blue Shield health insurance program is a voluntary program. If selected the associate pays approximately 30% of the premium cost. There are three distinct plans with different premium costs and deductible costs levels.

Associates may select coverage for associate only, associate plus one family member, or they may enroll in family coverage in any plan.

Premium payments are made through payroll deduction.

Prescription medicine coverage is included in all plans. Dental and vision coverage are optional plans.

When are you eligible?
Effective on the first of the month following employment.

Retirement Plan

What do you receive?
The company has amended our retirement plan to include a 401K feature.

The company will make a matching contribution of 50% of the first 4% of compensation that an eligible management associate contributes to the plan. The company’s matching contribution will not exceed 2% of an eligible associate’s compensation.

The company’s matching contributions are vested on a six-year schedule. Associate’s contributions are automatically 100% vested. There are federal tax law limitations on associate contributions. Please refer to the Summary Plan Description (SPD) for additional information.

Note: Management Associates who are at least 21 years of age who have not completed one year of service may contribute to the plan, in accordance with federal tax law limits, but will not be eligible for a matching company contribution.

When are you eligible?
To be eligible for a company contribution, the management associate must be at least 21 years of age, work 1000 hours or more per year, and have completed one full year on uninterrupted service.

Group Life Insurance

What do you receive?
Coverage depends on salary.

When are you eligible?
Enrollment after 30 day waiting period.

Short-term Illness

What do you receive?
Up to two weeks sick pay per anniversary year.

When are you eligible?
After 90 days of employment.

Long-term Disability

What do you receive?
Duckwall-ALCO Stores, Inc. provides eligible management associates with company-paid and contributory long term disability. The company-paid LTD applies to the first 90 days (or part thereof) of an illness or non-work related accident that results in a disability causing the associate to be unable to work. If upon completion of the company-paid 90 day LTD, the associate continues to be disabled and unable to work, the associate can apply for LTD benefits under the contributory LTD plan.

When are you eligible?
Upon employment if coverage is elected.

Accidental Death

What do you receive?
Company pays premium for $100,000 of coverage. Family or additional coverage is available at management associate’s expense.

When are you eligible?
Enrollment after 30 day waiting period.

Associate Discount

What do you receive?
The Associate, their legal spouse, children and/or parents living in the same household are eligible for an associate discount on purchases at any ALCO Discount Store or Duckwall Variety Store.

Discounts are allowed on regular, sale, or clearance merchandise but may be limited or not applicable to certain “special event” and/or coupon promotions as determined by the Store Support Center. Discounts are not allowed on merchandise where state or local laws determine a minimum mark-up (i.e. cigarettes); on alcohol; on fuel or fuel center merchandise; on pharmacy merchandise; or on the purchase of gift cards, prepaid cards or in conjunction with discount programs such as Senior Citizens Discount Day. Discounts are not available on purchases from any leased departments located in a store.
