Hourly Store Associates

Benefit eligibility is based on position.

Health Insurance Program

What do you receive?
The associate CIGNA/Starbridge health insurance program is a voluntary program with the associate paying the full premium cost. The associate must enroll within the first 30 days of employment to be eligible for the program. There are two distinct plans with different benefit levels and premium costs.

Associates may select coverage for associate only, associate plus one family member, or they may enroll in family coverage in either plan.

Premium payments are made through payroll deduction.

Both plans are defined benefit plans with limitations on the amounts paid. Associates should examine the plan descriptions and enrollment materials to determine if these plans offer the coverage they need.

Both plans include a vision discount program, prescription drug card, and coverage for doctor’s office visits.

When are you eligible?
Upon completion of thirty days of employment; Group Managers or associates who work 20 or more hours per week are eligible for the program.

Retirement Plan

What do you receive?
The company has amended our retirement plan to include a 401K feature.

The company will make a matching contribution of 50% of the first 4% of compensation that an eligible associate contributes to the plan. The company’s matching contribution will not exceed 2% of an eligible associate’s compensation.

The company’s matching contributions are vested on a six-year schedule. Associate’s contributions are automatically 100% vested. There are federal tax law limitations on associate contributions. Please refer to the Summary Plan Description (SPD) for additional information.

Note: Associates who are at least 21 years of age who have not completed one year of service may contribute to the plan, in accordance with federal tax law limits, but will not be eligible for a matching company contribution.

When are you eligible?
To be eligible for a company contribution, the associate must be at least 21 years of age, work 1000 hours or more per year, and have completed one full year of uninterrupted service.

Disability/Sick Pay

What do you get?
Associates who work 20 hours or more per week are eligible to earn disability/sick pay at the rate of one-half day per month based on their average daily hours worked during each pay period.

Up to six (6) days of sick pay may be accumulated per year and carried over for use in the following years. A maximum of sixty (60) days may be accumulated which, if not used, will be paid upon the associate's leaving the company [providing they were not terminated for cause, in the midst of a security investigation or on suspension pending the outcome of a security investigation, and had at least three (3) years of uninterrupted service].

When are you eligible?
Upon completion of one full year of uninterrupted service.

Associate Discount

What do you receive?
The Associate, their legal spouse, children and/or parents living in the same household are eligible for an associate store discount on purchases at any ALCO Discount Store or Duckwall Variety Store.

Discounts are allowed on regular, sale, or clearance merchandise but may be limited or not applicable to certain “special event” and/or coupon promotions as determined by the Store Support Center. Discounts are not allowed on merchandise where state or local laws determine a minimum mark-up (i.e. cigarettes); on alcohol; on fuel or fuel center merchandise; on pharmacy merchandise; or on the purchase of gift cards, prepaid cards or in conjunction with discount programs such as Senior Citizens Discount Day. Discounts are not available on purchases from any leased departments located in a store.

Note:
The associate must work their full scheduled day before and after the Holiday and/ or the Holiday if scheduled to receive the Holiday pay benefit.

Associates employed at least 90 but less than 365 continuous days who work on one of the above holidays are paid at a time and one half rate but are not eligible for Holiday Pay.
