Many travel-guide books will tell you a great way to experience food at a high-end restaurant without breaking the bank is to patronize the establishment at lunchtime, when prices are lower but the quality of the food is presumably the same as during the more costly dinner service.  Often a fancy restaurant will have an interesting bar menu, too -- as is the case at the charming Ristra, 548 Agua Fra St. (982-8608).  After a week of rich and lengthy meals, an early Sunday dinner in the classy, cozy bar was just what the doctor ordered.

Santa Fe Symphony & Chorus to hold Gala Wine & Art Auction Sunday he said, and proceeded to rattle off a list of memorable tavern scenes put to music -- Jacques Offenbach in Tales of Hoffman, Georges Bizet in Carmen, Giacomo Puccini in La boheme, and Carl Orff in Carmina Burana, which was recently performed by the Santa Fe Symphony to wildly enthusiastic and sustained ovations.  O'Reilly -- proprietor of both Pranzo Italian Grill and O'Keeffe Cafe -- is chairman of the Santa Fe Symphony & Chorus' Gala Wine & Art Auction, to be held Sunday at La Fonda on the Plaza.
